Fleet Insurance for a Growing Windows & Doors Distribution Business
A windows and doors distributor had outgrown a driver-by-driver approach to vehicle insurance, and its commercial cover still described a smaller business than the one it had become. We helped the leader close these gaps.

From Driver-by-Driver Van Insurance to One Fleet Insurance Policy
A windows and doors distributor had outgrown a driver-by-driver approach to vehicle insurance, and its commercial cover still described a smaller business than the one it had become. We helped the leader close these gaps.
The Business: A Distributor Outgrowing Its Vehicle Insurance
The leader runs a windows and doors distribution business that’s grown fast: more vehicles, more staff, more contracts. Growth like that changes what a business needs from its insurance.
Each vehicle in the fleet had been insured individually, one policy per driver, added as the fleet grew. It’s a workable approach for a smaller operation. But it stops working the moment the fleet stops being small.
The Problem: A Van Insurance Approach That Stopped Scaling
The gap showed up first with a driver. One employee held a non-UK licence. Insuring them individually meant a high premium and a pile of admin, with paperwork per driver and per vehicle every time something changed.
The leader could see the fleet had outgrown that approach, and suspected their wider commercial insurance probably had too. So we set to work on both.
What the Commercial Insurance Review Found
The commercial insurance had legal entities missing from the programme, meaning those entities weren’t covered if something went wrong involving them. A unit the business had added since wasn’t on the policy at all. And the business description on file still read like the business from a few years back, not the one they’d built since.
That last point matters more than it sounds. An insurer prices and agrees to pay claims against the business it thinks it’s covering. When the description on file is out of date, the business has effectively grown past the terms it’s insured under, because the cover a policy provides is only as good as the accuracy of what was disclosed to get it.
None of that shows up on a certificate. All of it shows up the moment something goes wrong.
What Changed: One Fleet Insurance Policy, One Accurate Commercial Programme
Fleet first. We arranged a fleet insurance policy in place of the driver-by-driver approach: one programme, the flexibility to add drivers and move who drives what, and a fraction of the admin.
The Result: An Insurance Programme Built to Support Growth, Not Slow It Down
Now, they have an insurance programme that makes their business stronger. A resilience asset as they continue to build, not a drain on resources.
The leader recently told us he’s moving from working in the business to working on it: delegating, stepping back from the day-to-day, so he can build the systems to keep the business moving forward. We’ve helped him do that with his insurance. One step closer to building an established business operation.
The mission continues. Insurance that performs. A business built to last.
