Public Liability Insurance: Keeping an Immersive Experience Business Trading

From No Cover Days Before Christmas to Public Liability, Employers’ Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance

A creative business that builds immersive experiences was left without cover days before Christmas, with every contract they had running suddenly uninsured. Getting them trading again with the right public liability insurance, employers’ liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance changed more than their policy. It changed how they use their broker.

The Business: An Immersive Experience Company Built on Contract-by-Contract Cover

The leader runs a creative business that specialises in building immersive experiences. Every new experience means a new client contract, and often a new subcontractor brought in to build it.

Before the year it mattered, the relationship with their broker had been a straightforward one: arrange a policy, renew it every year, and not think much about business insurance in between.

The Problem: An Insurer Withdrawal Left Public Liability and Employers’ Liability Insurance in Pieces Days Before Christmas

There was no time to suspect anything. Days before Christmas, their previous insurer declined to offer renewal, saying they had withdrawn from the market – a mismatch between the insurer and the activities of the business.

That left them without cover, days out from Christmas, with every contract they had running now uninsured:

  • No employers’ liability insurance in place for their own staff – a legal requirement, not a nice-to-have.
  • No public liability insurance behind the work they’d already completed, in case a claim ever came in about it.
  • Every live client contract suddenly running with no insurance backing it at all.

What Changed: Rebuilding Public Liability, Employers’ Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance Fast

We got the core covers in place fast: public liability insurance, employers’ liability insurance, and professional indemnity insurance, put back in place across every contract they had running so the business could keep trading over Christmas.

From a Once-a-Year Renewal to a Running Conversation

That emergency changed how the business used us, not just what it arranged with us. A once-a-year renewal conversation with their old broker became a running one instead, regular calls about contracts coming up, contracts they were only considering, and what each one would actually need from the insurance behind it.

A contract can ask for more than a policy actually provides: a higher liability limit, cover for a new territory, cover for an activity that’s new to them, and knowing that in advance means they can price the job properly, not just insure it. That’s the practical side of building a more resilient business.

They now send contracts over before signing, so we can tell them what the insurance requirements are and whether the current policy actually meets them. And they’ve started checking subcontractors’ insurance before bringing them onto a job, with us reviewing what comes back, a check that has already earned its place.

What It Means Now: Catching a Subcontractor Insurance Gap Before It Became a Claim

A subcontractor building a set for them believed they were insured for the work. On review, they’d been told wrong; the cover they thought was in place for that build wasn’t actually there.

If something had gone wrong on site before the gap was caught, the exposure would have landed back on our client. Once it came to light, the subcontractor amended their own policy, so the build was properly covered before that could happen.

That’s really the story here. What actually changed wasn’t one fix arranged in a hurry before Christmas. It was how the insurance gets handled altogether, moving from a yearly renewal conversation to real representation: one named adviser with an ongoing understanding of the business, someone they can work with regularly to help it grow stronger.

The mission continues. Insurance that performs. A business built to last.
